Emergence

Springtime: the drying river
gives up bottlecaps,

bullets, washing machines.
Once upon a time

a line redrawn
meant a self

made sensible.
If it were art

you’d call these muddy revelations
pentimento, little seed,

stumble-root,
what I meant

not what I meant
